The new six-story school is a ground up 102,000 SF primary and middle school located in the South Bronx serving approximately 900 students in grades K-8. The program includes core learning spaces, art, music, dance, cafetorium, gymnasium, multiple outdoor play terraces and a dedicated rooftop ball-play area.
The building massing maximizes the zoning envelope, accommodating large, programmatic spaces at the ground floor and promoting outdoor play spaces on floors above. The structural strategy of exposed acoustic composite decking creates generous ceiling heights and abundant natural light in classrooms. The School utilizes its through-block siting to provide separate entrances for the lower and middle schools.
